Final Entry
As many of you know, I will not return to Williams Middle School for the 2012-2013 school year. I want to thank everyone for their support and encourage you to continue doing so. My years here have been fantastic and I will cherish the memories and the relationships. Williams Middle is such a great school! I look forward to reading about and hearing great things about the school and community in the future. Have a wonderful summer and Go Hawks!

The last PTSA General Membership Meeting is Thursday, May 17th at 6pm in the school auditorium.
We have a lot to discuss in regard to the great success of the Spring Carnival and the even greater success of the Chrysler Drive for the Kids!
We have a considerable amount of money, compared to years past, and need your input, advice and ideas as to what to do with it all. We also need positions filled on the executive board and committee chairs for the upcoming school year.
It's not too late to join the PTSA ($6) or join for next year!
Looking to see you Thursday, May 17th at 6pm in the school auditorium!

Happy Teacher Appreciation Week!
This week has been designated as Teacher Appreciation Week! Although we appreciate our teachers all year long, this week is an excellent time to show it. Send a note, give them a positive phone call or even better, give your time. Our wonderful PTSA is sponsoring duty free lunch on Friday and we would love to have you as a volunteer. Just call the school if you are available between 11:50am and 1:15pm. Our teachers have worked hard this year so let's show them a little love! Thanks for all you do! Go Hawks!

Carnival Time!
Join us this Saturday!! We have some great activities for the whole family & we need your support! Here's a snapshot:
The UAH School of Engineering MindSet Program will take place at Williams Saturday morning, from 9-12. Only 50 students will be able to participate. Sign up sheets are available at the front desk.
The Chrysler Drive for the Kids begins at 11am. Volunteers are needed to help register drivers to test drive the 2012 Town and Country and process surveys. Chrysler would like to see 150+ drivers turn out for this event. If we meet or exceed that number, they will make this a yearly event! While your child is at Mindset, please come test drive a car and stay for the Carnival and Talent show! Williams will make $10 for every licensed driver 18 years and older who test drives a 2012 Town and Country!!!!
The Carnival plans are as follows: 20 volunteers are needed to supervise games for the whole time (2/game from 10am til 2 or 3pm)
Pre-sold wrist bands are $5, the kids can do all the games as many times as they want. Tickets for the games to be sold at the door, .25/ticket, 5 for a dollar.
Popcorn, candy, soda and water will be available at the concession stand for cash. Call the office to volunteer to help! See you Saturday!

Good Ole Days Spring Carnival
With spring comes fresh flowers, sprouting trees, and fundraisers!
On Saturday April 28, 2012 our PTSA will host our Good Ole Days Spring Carnival, and our 1st Drive 4Kids fundraiser! Our Carnival will feature the UAH MindSET Engineering and Math Workshop (in the morning), our Spring Talent Fest (in the afternoon), and of course games and food all day! Come join the fun! Bingo, ring toss, cake walk, face painting, and much more! We are so excited about The Chrysler Corporation Fundraiser at our Carnival! This fundraiser is very easy in that we don’t have to sell anything! We simply just need your “Time” to test drive a car. How does this work you might ask? Chrysler will donate $10 to our school for every adult over the age of 18 with a valid driver's license that drives a car around the school campus. We need your support!
See you Saturday, April 28th from 9am-2pm! We will have a Good Ole Time!!!

Happy Spring Break!
I hope everyone has a safe and happy Spring Break! School resumes on Monday April 2nd. During that week, all grade levels will participate in Testing Orientation. The purpose of this orientation is to ensure that all students are aware of the testing dates/schedule and the guidelines to be followed during our testing period. One thing that I want to emphasize to parents and students is that cell phones or other electronic devices are not allowed in the testing rooms. These items should be either left at home or locked in the student's locker. Testing begins on Tuesday April 10th and I will post the specific testing schedule next week. In the meantime, enjoy Spring Break!

I am so excited! The 3rd Annual Williams Middle School Blood Drive is Tuesday, February 14th from 11 a.m. – 6 p.m inside the middle school gym.

Approximately 1,000 people are needed each week for local patient care. Please join us on Tuesday, February 14th and make a lifesaving difference.
• All blood donors will be entered into a drawing for an iPad2.
• Each student that recruits at least two donors will receive a homework pass (donors that fill out the pledge card and donate blood).
All blood types are needed! Join us and give the gift of life!

The Cinnamon Challenge
Please be aware that we had several 8th grade students participate in the Cinnamon Challenge at school.
The Cinnamon challenge is a competition (a game) in which a person attempts to eat or swallow a spoonful of ground cinnamon without drinking anything. While the challenge appears to be very simple and easy, it is actually very difficult because the cinnamon quickly dries out the mouth, making it very prohibitive to swallow.
Officer Lehman reported to me that this behavior can be dangerous and even deadly. If you know of any students who are doing this please let me know and thanks so much for help with this!

New Year - Continued Focus!
I hope everyone had an excellent Holiday Season filled with fun, family and relaxation! As we move into our 2nd Semester of the school year, we will continue our focus on increasing student achievement and giving our students opportunities to "Link Learning to Life". Beginning next month, we will shift our focus for Hawk Time to include a more engaging intervention period for students needing additional help. Teachers are work diligently right now to determine where our needs lie. We ask that you continue to encourage your student to do their best! Whether it's homework, tests or Star Enterprise assessments, we need them to show us what they know. This will greatly assist our Curriculum Team in determining how to best meet the academic needs of all students.
Please check our school website and look for more information in the coming weeks about:
1. Black History Program
2. 3rd Annual Williams Middle School Community Blood Drive
3. PTSA General Meeting
4. Track team tryouts
Thanks for your continued support and Go Hawks!!
