Greetings! I am Avis Williams, a passionate educator! Born and raised in Salisbury,NC, I joined the Army upon graduating from North Rowan High School. While in the Army, I was stationed at Ft. Jackson, SC, Yongsan, Korea and finally, Redstone Arsenal, AL. I earned teaching certificates in the areas of English, Physical Education and Educational Administration. I completed my doctorate degree at the University of Alabama. During my career as an educator, I worked as a high school English teacher, PE teacher and coach and have served as a principal at the elementary, middle and high school levels, an executive director for secondary curriculum and instruction as assistant superintendent for curriculum and instruction. I currently serve as the Superintendent of Historic Selma City Schools where we Aim for Excellence and keep Students First! I have a beautiful, smart daughter who is an Airman in the US Air Force and a graduate from the University of Alabama (Roll Tide!). As an avid runner, I compete in several 10K races and half marathons each year. Also, I enjoy writing, teaching and community service. I am always excited to lead, serve and inspire others.
